Persistent Raccoons

We had a friend share this story with us, it goes to show how persistent animals can be.

"We had bought 80 chicks to butcher...slowly they were dying during the night, we'd find them with their heads missing. So we moved them to a large crate just outside our back door. That still didn't fix the problem & we weren't even sure what we were dealing with...just that we'd lose between half a dozen to a dozen a night, every night. Then one night, we caught them in the act. It was a pair of raccoons. One would scare the chicks to the other side of the cage where it's partner in crime would be waiting to reach thru the cage to grab one & pull it's head thru the cage & bite it off! Then that would scare them over to the other side where the other one awaited! So we only had a handful or two left out of the 80 at this point. We grabbed an old cage & laid it on a tarp in our utility room floor. And this is where our poor chicks ( half grown) would be spending their nights. All was fine for a night or two...then one morning, I got up & went to let the chicks out & I could not believe my eyes!! About half of them had their bodies pulled to the side of the cage & their heads were missing!!!!! I ran thru the house checking to see if all the doors & windows were still shut & locked... They were. We figured it out later that day...the smaller of the two crawled thru our dryer vent, pushed the dryer hose off the inside vent opening...& was INSIDE our house to help himself to our chickens!!!! INSIDE OUR HOUSE!!!! When I tell this story, I'm never sure if people will believe me or not...because I'm not sure if I'd believe it if someone told me this! Lol! But now I believe a lot of unbelievable sounding coon stories! Lol!"
