The egg thief.

We recently had a Snake Removal call near Joplin, MO. The offender was a Black Rat Snake in a chicken coop. He was just hanging out under the nesting boxes, waiting for a free meal. By the time I got there the snake was long gone, I think getting chased off by a shovel made him feel a bit unwelcome. That call reminded me how misunderstood snakes are. I'm not sure which are feared more, snakes or skunks. I can understand why people don't like skunks and their distinctive order, but I think snakes are just misunderstood. In most case they are shy and harmless, yet they end up being the victims of more shovels than any other animal.
