"Squirrels in the Attic" is probably the most common animal removal call we get, it goes something like this, "I hear noises in my attic and I noticed a hole in the side of my house, I think I have a squirrel." Most of the time the assumption is correct, but usually it's more than one squirrel using that hole. So why do squirrels like living in attics? Well, attics are generally dry, warm and undisturbed. The perfect place for a new mom to raise her young. Squirrels can have as many as three litters a year and especially when having access to an attic where the weather plays wery little intot he survival of her young. If a squirrel is born and raised in an attic, chances are that squirrel will go looking for a new attic to move into when it's time to go out on it's own.

Squirrels can cause all kinds of problems when they take up residence in an attic. In addition to the obvious annoyance of noises in the ceiling, squirrels do lots of damage. Initially the damage is limited to the holes they chew as entry points into the attic, but as they begin to settle in they begin to chew on everything. Squirrels are rodents and ad with most rodent species, their front teeth don't stop growing, so they have to chew to continually wear them down. Squirrels will chew on the framing of the house causing damage and potentially weakening the structure. They will also chew on electrical wires, which creates serious fire hazzards in the attic. Squirrels will also make a mess in an attic as they create a nest and bring food in to store as well as defecate. Another thing that many people don't think about is fleas, most wildlife carry fleas and aren't harmed by them, however having a squirrel bring fleas into a home can cause health problems for the residents.
