Squirrels in the Attic!

Are you hearing noises in your attic, maybe scratching sounds in the ceiling or gnawing sounds in the wall? It's possible you have unwanted guests in your attic, if so you aren't alone. Squirrels in the attic is a common problem we see in homes in Joplin, Carthage and Neosho, Missouri. Squirrels may not seem like a big problem, but they are. They will chew on everything, chances are they gnawed a hole through your soffit, fascia or roof to get in. Now that they are in they make themselves at home building a nest, stock piling food and chewing. Related to the beaver, which are noted for their ability to cut down trees with their teeth, squirrels also are able to gnaw through wood, plastic and vinyl rather quickly. We have observed that squirrels in Southwest Missouri and maybe all squirrels for that matter, enjoy chewing on plastic and vinyl. They seem to be attracted to vinyl siding and the isulation on electrical wiring. If squirrels have been in your house for any length of time, chances are they have chewed on some wires leaving them exposed and creating a fire hazard. It is important to remove the squirrels as soon as possible and repair any damage they have done immediately.
